How it works
One address. Four answers about your house.
Housemap puts the public record, the season where you live and your equipment on one page, so you know what to ask for before you call anyone.
What happens when you type an address
- 01
Type the address
Pick it from the suggestions or type it in full. Any US street address works. There is no account and no sign up.
- 02
Read the public record
Where the state publishes property records, Housemap reads them for that exact house: year built, living area, style, stories, lot size and use. Connected today: Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York (participating counties), Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Minnesota (Twin Cities metro), Utah. Elsewhere you add year built, size and home type yourself. A missing fact is never guessed, and Housemap does not show owner names.
- 03
See what it needs this season
A short list of the most useful jobs for a house of that age and style over the next few weeks, in its own climate, in order of what matters most. In Massachusetts each item shows the typical local range from the Handy Circle cost guides and a Get it done button that books a local pro.
- 04
Scan your equipment
Photograph the rating plate on a water heater, furnace, boiler, AC unit, heat pump or electrical panel. Housemap reads the brand, model and serial, takes the age from a printed date or a known serial code, and checks the federal recall database. A tank water heater typically lasts 6 to 12 years. The photo is not stored.
- 05
Save it if you want to
Nothing is saved until you tick the box. A saved file gets a private link that opens it and lets you change it, an optional read only household link, a logbook of jobs done with when each is due again, a printable home history, and email reminders that start only after you confirm them.
- 06
Keep the record
Add safety dates for alarms, the extinguisher, the dryer vent, the sump pump, GFCI outlets and the water heater, and Housemap tells you when each is due. Each equipment card links to the maker's manual and support, holds the filter size and the warranty end date, and the warranty lands in your reminders. The logbook builds a list of every pro who has worked on the house with their number, and the printable history totals what you spent by year and by kind of work. When you sell, hand the file to the next owner with one new private link.
- 07
Let the file do the paperwork
Snap a receipt and Claude fills in the job, date, cost and pro for you to check, and the photo stays with the job. Send a pro a contractor link and they log their own job, once, without seeing your file. Ask this house answers questions like when the filter was last changed, from your file only.
- 08
Keep everything in one place
Store warranties, manuals, closing papers and permits as photos or PDFs. List what is in each room with a photo, model, serial and what it cost. Note what you paid, your own estimate of value, the mortgage and the tax bill; Housemap never looks these up. A household link can stay read only or let someone add jobs and documents, and a score shows how complete the file is and what to add next.
Where the answers come from
Every number on the page has a source you can open.
- House facts
- Public property records published by the state where one is connected, such as MassGIS property tax parcels in Massachusetts. Connected today: Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York (participating counties), Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Minnesota (Twin Cities metro), Utah. Elsewhere, the details you enter.
- Location
- The U.S. Census Bureau geocoder for the state, county and coordinates of the address.
- Season plan
- Our seasonal maintenance checklist and the local climate for the month, matched to the house by Anthropic's Claude model. The street address, names and emails are not sent to it.
- Costs
- Massachusetts only: Handy Circle cost guides, built from public market ranges. Elsewhere costs vary by area, so no price is shown.
- Lifespans
- The InterNACHI life expectancy chart.
- Recalls
- The CPSC recalls database from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
- Weather
- For reminders, freeze, heat and storm alerts from the National Weather Service for the location of the house.
What Housemap is not
It is not a home inspection or an appraisal. Results are estimates from public records and AI and can be wrong. A qualified pro confirms on site before any work. More in Questions.
